The new narrative in the fishing sector: a balance between sustainable usage and conservation of the seas
We will conduct an analysis of some of the key aspects for the Spanish and European fishing sector in fishery management, on the premise that fishing is not the problem, but is part of the solution.
It is essential for 100% of the world’s stocks to be well managed, with the collaboration of scientists, governments and the fishing industry. Fish and shellfish contain the world’s healthiest animal protein, with the least impact in terms of carbon footprint during their production process. Consuming these foodstuffs is the best way of fighting climate change. The objective must be to secure a balance between conservation of biodiversity, sustainable use of resources and food safety.
This presentation will also dwell on the contribution of fishing to Sustainable Development Goals and the importance of human capital.
